Discover Calaguas Islands of Bicol, Philippines

   Summer is one of the most awaited time of the year for most of us. It is because it is the season when we can enjoy our time in beautiful beaches with our families and loved ones. Here’s one of the most promising beach here in the Philippines, the Calaguas Islands.

  • Swim in Pulang Daga Beach of Paracale
  • Check out Saltahan Falls, Palanas Falls, Malatap Falls, Burok-Busok Falls, Binuan Falls and other waterfalls of Labo
  • Go spelunking in Mt. Cadig Cave also of Labo
  • Head south towards Caramoan, Camarines Sur Water Sports Complex in Naga, Albay and Sorsogon
   The islands of Calaguas can be seen in the most northern part of the Bicol Region. It is under the jurisdiction of the town of Vinzons, province of Camarines Norte. In just two (2) hours of boat from the mainland, you can witness the fine white sand beaches, crystal-clear sea water and virgin natural resources. It is truly a place where you can relax and enjoy the sceneries. The long stretch of beach called Halabang Baybay/Mahabang Buhangin (Long Beach) by the locals, is a bay located in the Tinaga Island that represents a perfect paradise where in you can enjoy the powdery white sand beach mixed with some volcanic rocks, this area is the most frequent site for camping and swimming.

How to Get There?

   There are many travel/tour organizers that offer package trip to Calaguas, including the accommodation and amenities. But travelling by yourselves is the cheapest way to the island. These will make your trip more exciting and thrilling.

Via Vinzons
   From Daet, the capital of Camarines Norte, you can ride a Jeepney to Vinzons and from there you can ride a Tricycle to the fishport (Pandawan). There is a daily boat trip going to Barangay Banocboc that departs from the fishport at exactly 11AM. From Banocboc you can hire a banca going to Calaguas for as low as P500.00 or even cheaper depending on your “TAWAD SKILLS”.  The return trip to Vinzons departs Banocboc at 6AM the next day.
The other option is to hire a banca from the fishport of Vinzons going directly to Calaguas. The price depends on the boat capacity. The small boat that has the capacity of four to five people ranges from P2000.00 to P3000.00. The travel time is atleast two hours.

Going to Daet from Manila, you have two options:

By Land
   Philtranco, Amihan (Contact No: 3871792), DLTB and Superlines buses offer Cubao/Pasay to Daet for an approximately 7-8 hours travel time. Fare cost differs, but ranging from P450.00($10) to P750.00($17)

By Air
   Naga in Camarines Sur is closest airport with regular commercial flights via Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. From Naga, Daet is around two-hour drive. There are vans to Daet located in Naga Van Terminal, the earliest departs at 5AM and the last trip is around 7PM.

Via Paracale
   The town of Paracale is famous because of its gold. Going to Calaguas from Paracale is faster than the travel from Vinzons. From Daet, you can ride a Van or Bus that has a fare of around P60.00. But if you are coming from Manila, you can directly ride a bus going to function generate_adsense_shortcode() { ?>
   From the fishport of Paracale, you can hire a boat of fishermen living there and ask a trip to Halabang Baybay (Mahabang Buhangin), Calaguas or you may ride a boat going to Barangay Mangcawayan, Calaguas for cheaper fare. However there’s no regular public boat trip to Barangay Mangkawayan but more of fisherman’s boat and the schedule is very unpredictable.

Where to Stay Overnight?
   There are so many cottages and resorts in Calaguas Island. Waling-Waling Resort offers air-condition room for at least P3,500 per room per night. For campers, entrance fee ranges from P120 to P150 per person, tent pitching fee is P100 per tent and cottage is as low as P500.

   If you plan to stay in Paracale before or after your Calaguas trip, Paliza del Rio Tourist Inn in Poblacion, near the market, has affordable rooms and open parking space. You can leave your car there if you are going to Calaguas Island for minimal fee.

   Calaguas is the perfect place for relaxation and unwinding. Just enjoy the beautiful scenery and sip an ice-cold juice while sitting on the fine white sand beach.
